Ride a Carriage in Mérida

It's traditional to see horse-drawn carriages on the streets of Mérida. This mode of transportation has been used since colonial times, originating in Europe and was used by wealthy Mérida residents until the late 19th century. Nowadays, it's used for tourism, with drivers narrating the city's history. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes, starting at Plaza Grande towards the Hidalgo, Santa Lucía, and Santa Ana parks; then continues along Paseo de Montejo, Mérida's main avenue, until reaching the impressive Monument to the Flag, one of the most iconic symbols of Mérida. On the way back, it passes by Palacio Cantón, the current headquarters of the Anthropology Museum, famous for both its shape and its content, then returns to the center and Plaza Grande where it began.
